Frequently Asked Questions About Newborn Photography in DFW
Below are some FAQs when it comes to thinking about newborn photography in DFW. If you don’t see an answer to questions you may have, feel free to reach out. I am happy to chat with you about documenting this special time!
What age do you do a newborn photoshoot?
Beautiful photos of your child can be taken at any time, but for true “newborn” photos, it’s typically recommended to have photos taken before the baby is two weeks old. In those first two weeks of life, babies sleep through almost anything, so newborn photoshoots go much more smoothly during this time. However, you may choose to have newborn photos taken a bit later on (2-3 months is also a very sweet age to photograph). While some newborn photographers will not offer newborns sessions later on, Consider the Lilies Photography will photograph your baby at any age! We will adapt the photoshoot and tailor it to your baby’s age.
It is worth getting a newborn photoshoot?
It’s a resounding “YES” from me… Babies change and grow at an incredibly fast rate in the first few months of life. I often tell parents at their newborn photoshoot that their baby will look so much older in 2-3 weeks when they get their photos back! It’s true that they change so much in those first few weeks, and I recommend a newborn photoshoot for this reason and many more. Having photos taken of your newborn and family (even beloved pets) can be such a sweet time even in the midst of sleepless nights and adjusting to your new routine. Once you get a little further down the road, you’ll be so glad you have these beautiful memories to look back on with such fondness.
How much Should I Pay for Baby Pictures?
When it comes to the pricing of baby pictures, every photographer sets their own rates based on various factors such as their level of expertise, the cost of doing business, location, and the specific services offered. Highly experienced photographers who specialize in newborn and baby photography may command higher fees due to their skill and the quality of their work.
My pricing is structured to reflect the level of expertise and artistry that goes into every image. Each photograph undergoes a thorough hand-editing process, ensuring every detail is perfected to achieve the highest quality.
Who is the best newborn photographer in DFW?
Consider the Lilies Photography is one of DFW’s favorite lifestyle newborn photographers. Clients trust me to deliver not only stunning images but also a memorable and enjoyable experience. What month should you do a newborn shoot?
The ideal time to schedule a newborn photoshoot is typically within the first two weeks of the baby's life. This timeframe is when newborns are sleepiest and still have that distinctive newborn look. Generally, the best time is between 7 to 14 days old. It's a great idea to book your session in advance to secure a spot with your preferred photographer during this narrow window of time. However, every baby is different, so flexibility is key, and experienced photographers can often work with babies beyond the two-week mark to capture beautiful images. Consider the Lilies Photography will photograph your baby at any age! We will adapt the photoshoot and tailor it to your baby’s age.
Can you do newborn photos at home?
Yes, absolutely! Consider the Lilies Photography offers in-home sessions as a convenient and comfortable option for families. In-home newborn photoshoots provide a relaxed environment for both parents and baby, eliminating the need to travel with a newborn. I work with with natural light (and bring additional lighting equipment, if needed) to create beautiful images in your own space. Home sessions also allow for personalization, incorporating meaningful props or capturing moments in familiar surroundings, such as the nursery. Being at home ensures that parents have access to all the necessities for their baby's comfort, making it easier to attend to their needs throughout the session.
What is the difference between lifestyle and studio newborn photography?
In studio newborn photography, sessions typically take place in a photographer's studio equipped with professional lighting, backdrops, and props. The focus is often on creating posed portraits of the newborn, utilizing various props and accessories.
Lifestyle newborn photography takes a more natural and candid approach, capturing moments in the comfort of the family's home. The emphasis is on documenting authentic interactions and emotions, showcasing the baby in familiar surroundings and incorporating elements of the family's lifestyle.
What happens at a lifestyle newborn session?
Unlike traditional studio sessions, lifestyle sessions aim to document the natural interactions of the family with their newborn. Throughout the session, the photographer will work with natural light and minimal props to capture genuine moments, such as cuddling on the bed, feeding, or playing with siblings and pets. The photographer may also take portraits of the newborn alone and with family members in various rooms of the house, including the nursery and living areas. The goal is to create a relaxed and comfortable atmosphere where the family can enjoy bonding with their newborn while the photographer captures timeless and heartfelt images that reflect the joy and intimacy of their new arrival.
What should I wear to my newborn lifestyle session?
For a newborn lifestyle session, moms can enhance the serene atmosphere by opting for a flowy dress that exudes both comfort and elegance. Soft, flowing fabrics like chiffon or cotton can create a graceful silhouette and allow for easy movement, perfect for tender moments with your newborn.
Dads can elevate the timeless charm of the session by donning classic attire such as a button-down shirt paired with chinos. Crisp, neutral-colored shirts in shades like white, light blue, or grey offer a timeless and polished look that complements the soft hues often present in newborn photography.
