Welcoming a newborn into your family is a joyous occasion filled with love, excitement, and countless precious moments waiting to be captured. As you prepare for your newborn photography session in the Dallas Fort Worth area, ensuring your home is cozy and welcoming helps to create beautiful, timeless images that you'll cherish for years to come.
Here's how to prepare your home for this special occasion:
Declutter and Tidy Up: Begin by decluttering and tidying up the spaces where the photos will be taken. Clear away any unnecessary items, toys, or clutter to create a clean and uncluttered backdrop for the photographs.
Choose a Well-Lit Space: Natural light is prefect for stunning newborn photography. Select a room in your DFW home that receives plenty of natural light, such as a nursery, master bedroom or living room, for your photo session. Open curtains and blinds to let in as much light as possible. As a seasoned newborn photographer who specializes in at-home sessions, I will absolutely help you identify which rooms have the dreamiest light to showcase you and your family in the most flattering way!
Set the Temperature: Newborns are most comfortable in a warm environment, so be sure to set the thermostat to a cozy temperature for your little one. This will help keep them content throughout the session.
Gather Simple Props: While your newborn will be the focus, simple props can add charm to your photos. Collect soft blankets or a special heirloom to incorporate into the session. This step is completely optional, but if you are the sentimental type, you are more than welcome to add a special touch to your photo session.
Coordinate Outfits: Coordinate outfits for your family members that complement each other and the overall aesthetic of your Dallas Fort Worth area home. Soft, neutral colors such as white, creams, grays, and pastels work well for newborn photography and create a timeless look. When you book your session, you’ll receive a style guide complete with color palettes and shopping link to help guide you in choose outfits that photograph best.
Consider Your Home's Aesthetic: Reflect on the aesthetic of your DFW home and how you want it represented in the photos. Whether your style is modern and minimalist or cozy and traditional , incorporating elements of your home's décor into the session adds a personal touch.
Prepare the Nursery: If you plan to take photos in the nursery, ensure it's clean, organized, and ready for its close-up. Arrange furniture and décor to showcase the space you’ve worked so hard to curate for your little one. And you don’t have to use a nursery for newborn photos. Oftentimes we use a mix of 1-3 rooms that get the best natural light in your home.
Plan for Feeding and Comfort: Newborns have their own schedules and needs, so be prepared to take breaks during the session for feeding, diaper changes, and cuddles. Have everything you need close at hand, including bottles, diapers, wipes, and a comfortable spot to nurse or bottle-feed your baby. And just know as a mother myself, I am very comfortable helping to sooth your baby and will be watching for any cues your baby gives to help us keep him or her comfortable and happy during the session.
Relax and Enjoy the Moment: Above all, relax and savor the moment. Your photographer is there to capture the love, joy, and magic of this special time in your North Dallas DFW home, so let go of any expectations and enjoy the experience.
By following these tips, you can create a warm and inviting atmosphere for your newborn photography session in the Dallas Fort Worth area, ensuring that every precious moment is beautifully captured for you to cherish for years to come.
